And an extreme with ether or will be as bad. Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, these are the exception to the rules. Take the Koch Brothers, the Oil Companies and the Banksters to see that allowing individuals too much can also destroy the world.

And if the Klepto-Oligarchs like the Koch Bros and Banksters had their way, they would destroy upcoming Elon Musks of the future who would disrupt their scams and stealing of the world's resources.

So we need to come up with 21st century alternatives to the 19th Century institutions we have today.

Governments are just about the only mechanism we have to modulate other collective entities like corporations. Plus there needs to be an entity like a government to create and/or manage common goods like roads, sewers, rights of way, etc and to ensure that a few rich entities don't just use the environment as an dump or runaway exploited resource.

But that doesn't mean it has to be in the form of corruption we have today. And there are other mechanisms a government could use to disperse that wealth in ways that encourage innovation and don't have clueless politicians or civil servants choosing economic winners or losers. (a mix of X Prizes, peer reviewed disbursements, plus some form of randomized grants could be a start)

Now moving to that point is the tough job, but juvenile libertarian no government sentiment is another blocker that allows the crooks and sociopaths to continue to steal our future.Rob Bergerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10146196531329124264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3686340074869994423.post-87415192040180174932013-01-10T14:24:36.329-08:002013-01-10T14:24:36.329-08:00Michael,

I'm dealing with the other perspective as charitably as I can.

Authorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11736144527337505272noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3686340074869994423.post-62117852142064695552013-01-10T14:09:57.699-08:002013-01-10T14:09:57.699-08:00A couple points:

The govt is not smarter than individuals because they're made up of individuals. The only difference is these ones have won popularity contests. They don't really care about society any more than the average person and they'll always put their own interests first. This is human nature.

Also:

1) There are no examples of politicians taking more tax money and using it to pay down debt. That does not win you votes. Rather they use any new monies to buy votes with increased spending. It's astonishing people can't see this.

2) "worthwhile public infrastructure projects" assumes the government can better determine an investment then the market. This is not the case the case. We already spend way to much on traditional classroom education. Roads and other infrastructure are so badly managed that the costs have exploded and any new monies will go to ever higher union worker compensation.
